Different Online Poker Personalities

Online poker rooms are frequented by different types of poker players.  See if you can recognize any of the following:

The Tough Kid: This is the kid who joins the poker room using their parent’s credit card (usually when their parents are asleep) and bad mouths other players’ non-stop.  They act the tough guy and let other online players know how bad they play and what stupid plays they make.

Serious Play Money: This is the poker player in the play money poker room who acts as if everyone should be entirely serious about every single hand as if they are playing with real money and their life depends on it.  This player folds their hand and then tells the other players how they should have played their winning hand.

Random Excuse Bob: This poker player is renowned for giving random reasons as to why they are not doing very well at the poker tables. Examples of common excuses are: I’m drunk and don’t know what I’m doing (on a high limit table), something is wrong with the online poker room software, I'm waiting for a seat at the table I usually play at to become available.   

Mr Mind Reader: This player has it in his head that the only reason he loses constantly at the poker tables is because all of the other players at the table are using cheating software and can read all of his hands.

Mr Lover Boy: This player treats the poker room as an online dating site.  He doesn’t care about the poker game at all.  All he cares about are the female players at the table, their photos and stats.

Ms Lover Girl: She always spends at least 20 minutes looking for the game where she can be represented by the most attractive and endowed avatar.  This is to grab all of the male player’s attention.  Ms Lover Girl treats online poker rooms as “chat rooms”.

Rain Man: This player has their poker calculator software out and running to calculate the odds of winning each hand so every time it’s their turn to act the time on the clock almost runs out.  This is extremely frustrating for the other players at the table.

The Wannabe Rich Guy: This poker player has very little money, but their poker name and/or avatar usually implies millions.   They will usually have a picture of a fast, expensive car as their avatar or may even have “Ferrari” or “Porsche” somewhere in their nickname.

Mr Chatterbox: This player chats non-stop!  They will chat about anything and everything from other player’s style of play, why they are the best player in the world, why other player’s made bad decisions, the weather, what they had for dinner last night.  The best way to deal with this type of player is to turn off your chat!

These are just a few of the different types of players’ online, see if you can spot one when you’re playing online next; you’ll be surprised just how common they are!
