Poker Strategies for Women

(9 votes)

Poker WomanPoker for many years has been dominated by men. It is a game with plenty of aggression, competitiveness, distrust, betting, raising and stone cold bluffs.  In the past few years however there has been a huge increase in the number of women deciding to join in the game of poker.

As a woman joining the poker world the trick is to recognize differences between male and female poker players and use these differences to your advantage.

You can categorize male poker players by the way they to react to women at the poker table.

The first type of male poker player hates to lose especially to a woman poker player.  His ego will get in the way of his judgment.

Tip: Play aggressively against this type of male poker player.  He’ll try to outplay an aggressive woman, and will usually donk off all of his chips playing marginal hands.

The second type of male poker player thinks that all women poker players are bad poker players; that is they are easy to read, weak, predictable, don’t have good judgment and will not dare to bet or raise unless they have the nuts.

Tip: Play ultra-aggressively against this type of player - bet, raise and bluff!

This type of player will tend to fold marginal hands when up against an ultra-aggressive poker player as they are usually also tight players.

The third type of male poker player is the flirt.  They like women to think of them as great guys.  They will often just call a raise from a woman’s bet rather than reraise which they would have done if the bet had come from another male poker player.   If a woman poker player bets they will fold marginal hands.

Tip: Play aggressively against this type of male poker player, bet, and raise even with marginal hands, if he doesn’t have anything he will usually fold.

The fourth and final type of male poker player treats women poker players just the same as any other poker player, male or female.  These types of male poker players are rare!

Tip: Play different strategies when up against this type of player until it can be established what type of player he is; loose/aggressive, tight/passive etc.
