| Written by Somethingaboutpoker | | Saturday, 23 February 2008 | Is this seriously going to be the next “Rounders” Movie, A new movie called “DEAL” that has already been postponed is now set to come out sometime in April 2008. The movie stars poker playing actresses Jennifer Tilly and Shannon Elizabeth alongside old timer actor Burt Reynolds. Burt stars as a retired gambling poker player who quits the game because he missed an emergency back in his hey day when he was busy playing cards, (Probably trying to get even) and because of this promises his wife never to play the game again. He ends up discovering a young kid, Actor Bret Harrison who has a good basic game. In short he takes the young gun under his wing teaches him the ropes to become a better player and then somewhere along the line they have an argument, like most movies over a girl (Shannon Elizabeth) break off their partnership and square off against each other going heads up in a WPT Tournament. It sounds very similar to the movie “Lucky You” and also the movie “Colour of Money” that starred Paul Newman as the senior hustler with young punk Tom Cruise. There are a slew of current poker professionals in the scenes like Greg Raymer, Joseph Hachem, Antonio “The Magician” Esfandari, and Scott Lazar to name a few. Plus you can hear commentary from Mike sexton of WPT fame. This will make for interesting watching to see if these poker players can act. I could see the likes of Phil Laak starring alongside Jim Carrey or Gus Hansen alongside The Rock in an action flick, which would be funny to watch. I hope this movie does come out as a good poker movie and it doesn’t end up with the final hand being a royal flush vs. 4 of a kind type of ending. | Written by Somethingaboutpoker | | Tuesday, 19 February 2008 | The WPT has just announced its schedule for it’s now seventh season, poker has come along way with so many different poker type tours opening around the globe with WSOP, the WSOP Europe, the EPT (European Poker Tour) and the new APPT (Asia Pacific Poker Tour).
The only issue with the new WPT season is that most of the tours are still centered in the US four WPT tournaments alone being held at the Bellagio Casino. You will see that the Turks and Caicos event and the Barcelona event are not on the schedule. WPT Season Six is all ready to go and will begin airing on GSN at the end of the month, its new home network which it has changed to from the Travel Channel. GSN is also the home to High Stakes Poker which stars all the big name players that play at the highest limits so viewers to the channel will probably be more sophisticated watchers of the game and will be used to seeing a show like the WPT on the channel.
