Tournament Strategy? 2008/07/24 07:17 Karma: 2
Hello!

I just wanted to open up a topic for people who play tournaments!

What kind of strategy do you use? do you play tight and wait for a hand or loose aggressive to build up your chips?

i play a tighter game at the beginning and then start playing more hands when the blinds get too big! looking for good strategy ideas to go deeper in the tourneys.

I play mainly good hands in early position (AA,KK,AK,QQ,JJ)etc and some suited connectors on the button and late position.

When the blinds go up then I start opepning up to the weaker hands.

This is part of my Tight Aggressive strategy I use specifically for Sit N Go Tourneys

Beginning:

I play AA, KK, QQ, JJ, AK suited, AQ Suited, AK Off, AQ Off

90% raise 10% call in late position

Middle Pairs & Small pairs only in Blinds, Button and Cut Off

Middle: 40% - 60% Left

I Play AA, KK, QQ, JJ, AK suited, AQ Suited, AK Off, AQ Off, TT, AJ Suited, KQ Suited, 99, A10 Suited, KJ Suited, 88,

60% raise 40% call

Late In Tourney:

I Play AA, KK, QQ, JJ, AK suited, AQ Suited, AK Off, AQ Off, TT, AJ Suited, KQ Suited, 99, A10 Suited, KJ Suited, 88, QJ Suited, K10 Suited, A9 Suited, AJ, Q10 suited, KQ, 77, J10 Suited.

Raising always in late position, never calling in the small blind, only raise.

This is just my basic starting hands and sometimes I will change up from this depending on the table dynamics.

I Hope this helps

Hey

I am new to forum so quick hello to everyone

Matt:

Are you playing turbo or normal s&gs?

I cant believe you fold small to medium pocket pairs in the beginning of the tournament.

I like to play loose in the beginning, especially if a lot of people limp them my range is big I call all PPs suited connectors and gapers, I think that we have a great pot and implied odds to play those hands, and it is great to double up at beginning.

At the later stages I play mostly tight, with occasional restealing.

Hi All,

I play tight at the beginning of a tournament and only go in with A-A, K-K, Q-Q and sometimes J-J depending on who else has called and if any loose aggressive players call.

I then play more hands during the middle of the game such as J-J 10-10, 9-9, 8-8 and suited connectors and raise in position.

Late in the tourney is when I really loosen up by bluffing and stealing the blinds, I find this is when alot of players tighten up as they tend to play loose at the start of the tourney.

Any tips/comments would be most helpful.

I also like to gamble a little bit when the blinds are small, specially in a turbo tournament.

But I never put more than 20% of my stack on this strategy.

Hello to the new people!

Welcome to the forum. That strategy I use is by basic Tight Aggressive Strategy and what I fall back on when I get too creative with my bluffs.

I do loosen up a bit, but I have noticed my stats are better at SNG's when I play tighter.

Yeah, stealing blinds later in tournament is very important, but you need a good stack to do this at least 20bb, so it is important to build your stack in the beginning.
