Description:

At 44, Howard Lederer can claim that he has seen the Grateful Dead in concert 125 times. His other passion besides concerts and poker? Golf. The brother of professional poker player Annie Duke and author/poet Katy Lederer, Howard was a big chess player in high school, attending Columbia University in New York City to earn his degree and continue his chess playing. He found poker while playing in one of Columbia's chess clubs and can claim Erik Seidel and Dan Harrington as close friends.

In 1994 Lederer moved to Las Vegas to continue his poker career and went professional. He uses his nickname 'The Professor' to write informative poker playing articles for Full Tilt poker, one of the best online poker rooms that he helped design. He enjoys spending time away from the poker table with his wife, son and three dogs and has claimed that running and basketball are what keep him in shape.

Aggressiveness:

Wondering how he got his nickname? Lederer is a very analytical poker player and his demeanor is calm and focused. He uses the art of Zen meditation to keep his cool and channel his focus on the game before him. For the most part this calmness keeps his opponents on their toes, but occasionally his cool is tested and he speaks his mind.

Experience:

From his days at Columbia University, Lederer has been playing poker. He has been helping his sister Annie hone her own poker skills since the 1980s and his wins at the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker tour has given him plenty of experience at the tables.

In addition to providing poker commentary and analysis on Full Tilt's 'Learn From The Pros' and FSN's 'Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament' programs, Lederer also runs a Fantasy Poker Camp. The camp allows players the chance to attend and learn how to play the many different varieties of poker from some of the biggest names on the poker circuit.

Tournament Play:

Howard's tournament play has consisted mostly of The World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker circuits. He currently holds two bracelets from the World Series of Poker, two World Poker Tour titles and was voted the World Poker Tour 'Player of the Year' in 2003.

His has also won the Bellagio's Five-Star World Poker Classic in 2003 and 2004, as well as a variety of smaller tournaments throughout the world.

Cash Play:

Lederer's cash play is limited to what he plays in Full Tilt's online poker room. He focused more time on cash games until 2002 when the World Poker Tour tournaments went to being played on a monthly basis.

Now, a lot of his time has been devoted to working on helping others learn the subtle nuances and rules of the many variations of the game.
